Fishie is an animated series for young children, inspired by the book of the same name by bestselling Bulgarian author Katya Antonova. Because of his unusual name, the cat Fishie is misunderstood by those around him and struggles to find friendship and acceptance. Convinced that love must exist somewhere beyond the familiar world, he sets out on a journey to find it.
Each adventure takes Fishie to a new place, where he meets eccentric characters and finds himself in unexpected situations. He visits a whimsical hat shop, explores unfamiliar worlds and encounters animals whose selfishness often leaves him disappointed. Yet every experience teaches him something about friendship, kindness and the importance of accepting others as they are.
Through humour, imagination and gentle emotional storytelling, Fishie explores belonging, tolerance, openness and the courage to remain hopeful after rejection. His journey eventually leads him to true friends and to a cat named Mouse, whose kindness and open mind show him that love can be found where we least expect it.
The project was selected for Cartoon Forum 2023 and Animation Production Days 2023 and was developed as a European collaboration between partners from Bulgaria, France and Denmark, with support from the Bulgarian National Film Center and Bulgarian National Television.
