Stolen Colors is a 3D animated short set in a dazzling city where colours are the most valuable currency. Bright cars, extravagant clothes and vivid appearances are symbols of wealth and status — but only those who can afford them are allowed to live in full colour.
When colours begin mysteriously disappearing just before the city’s biggest festival and an important election, the Mayor turns to an unusual pair of investigators: Cameron, a sharp detective chameleon, and his loyal partner Paca, an alpaca. As they follow the clues, the detectives uncover a mystery in which appearances can be deceptive and almost everyone has something to gain.
Combining comedy, adventure and a distinctive visual world, Stolen Colors explores greed, social inequality and the desire to possess what should belong to everyone. Beneath its playful detective story lies a reflection on a society in which beauty, individuality and even colour itself have been transformed into privileges.
The film is an international co-production between Animatrix, Fantefilm and Zographic Films, directed by Gaute Hesthagen and co-directed by Tomas Juchnevič, with production support from the Bulgarian National Film Center. It was presented in the competition programme of Golden Rhyton 2025.
